Great intro to your car free living! My family purchased a cargo bike 5 years ago and it has allowed us to live a "car light" existence. Cargo bikes have been great for carrying kids to/from school and doing grocery runs. The only downside is it's not quite as portable as a traditional bike and won't fit on public transportation. You'll probably touch on this in future posts, but how courteous have you found other drivers to be in the triangle? I'd be nervous to cycle on the various stroads that make up the region, but the side streets (and protected sidewalks) seem to provide safe alternatives.

That is great to hear! I'm glad cargo bikes have been a good solution for you and your family. Despite their inconveniences at times, they're great for running errands and for families with children, particularly on more quiet streets.

I certainly plan to go in-depth on the general bike environment here in Durham, but I haven't struggled too much up to this point. Since I live downtown, I fortunately never interact with multi-lane stroads and I make sure to keep plenty of distance with cars. However, I oftentimes find myself riding on an unprotected bike lane or having to 'share the road' with cars, which is certainly not safe if riding with children. The drivers generally have been alright, but I'm sure as time goes on I'll have some close encounters to share with y'all here.
